New naphthalenediimides as potential dyes for TiO2-sensitized solar cells

Abstract In this work new naphthalenediimides (NDIs) were synthesized and used as dyes in DSSC. The efficiency ( η ) of the DSSC is influenced by NDIs electronic structural characteristics. It was found a better cell performance with which have broader absorption band shifted to red color, high ƹ values, more adsorption anode surface. gaps determinate UV–vis cyclic voltammetry. LUMO orbitals most are above conduction (CB) energy for TiO 2 allowing electron transfer process from NDI photoanode, especially those significant -CB Ti energetic difference. Also, polar groups their structure presented higher values due on photoanode surface, allows capture compared lower adsorption.

Nitro group as a new anchoring group for organic dyes in dye-sensitized solar cells.

An organic dye JY1 bearing a nitro group was designed, synthesized and applied in DSCs. An unusual colour change was observed when the voltage applied to the device was reversed which was accompanied by a five-fold increase in the cell efficiency.
